The Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Fadeyi, has charged media professionals to uphold the tenets of their profession and fear Allah.
Hon. Fadeyi stated this while playing host to the leadership and members of the Oyo State chapter of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria at his official residence, GRA Agodi Ibadan.
The Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, who himself is a media practitioner and was a National Assembly correspondent before venturing into politics, said that publication or broadcast of unethical news items is not only detrimental to national cohesion but also against the principles of Islam.
Hon. Fadeyi, who represents the Ona Ara State Constituency, enjoined members of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) to strive to be a model through adherence to the professional, moral, and ethical demands of journalism practice.
In his remarks, the National President of MMPN, Alh Abdur-Rahman Balogun, commended the Deputy Speaker for being a good representative of Islam and the media in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
He stressed that Hon. Fadeyi has brought his journalistic experience to bear in his position not only as a legislator but also as one of the Principal officers of the house.
Earlier, the Oyo State Chairman, MMPN, Alh Adebayo Abdur-Rofih, disclosed that the visit, which was part of activities lined up for the 2024 Ramadan, was a way of reminding the people in leadership positions about public expectations.
He assured that the association, whose members cut across all media houses in Oyo State and Nigeria, would continue to promote, peace and security of the state through their news reporting.
The programme featured lectures, and special prayers for the host, his family, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large.
