Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reiterated the commitment of his government to ensure the safety of students across the state.
Governor Makinde made the promise, on Tuesday, in Ogbomoso while reacting to the killing of a student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, yesterday.
The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Salihu Adelabu at the grand finale of the 16th convocation ceremony of the university, said the government will ensure a thorough investigation is done over the issues surrounding the killing of the undergraduate.
He also assured to work harmoniously with the management of the institution and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of students and indigenes of Ogbomoso.
Findings by our correspondent in Ogbomoso, Aderemi Akanmu, revealed that the student was reportedly shot dead on Monday, while two other students were injured.
Mediareportsng also reports that human and vehicular movement was partially obstructed at the Isale General roundabout for hours over students’ protest.
The death of the LAUTECH undergraduate student came at a time when the state is preparing for the Saturday, April 27 local government election across the 33 council areas in the state.
