- As Police, NSCDC Assures Voters Of Maximum Security
The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), has urged the police and other security agencies to ensure the arrest of the attackers of its staff at Okeho in the Kajola local government area of the state.
OYSIEC Chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), made the appeal while reacting to the incident, on Friday.
He, however, gave the assurance that both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials are intact, urging the law enforcement agents to fish out the assailants.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, said all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a credible and acceptable council poll.
While responding to questions from journalists, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, announced that over 12,000 security operatives, excluding men of the Nigerian Army, will be across the wards and polling units in the state.
CP Hamzat reiterated that there will be restrictions on movement from 6 am to 6 pm. He added that local security outfits would not participate in tomorrow’s election.
Heads of other security agencies also warned those that have no business with the election to distance themselves from polling units, as security officers will deal with anyone, who moves to truncate the peaceful conduct of the council poll.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Hamzat Adebola, the Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Augustine, the Director General of the Amotekun Corps, Retired Major General Oladipo, and representatives of other security agencies were present at the press briefing ahead of the election tomorrow.
The local government election is expected to be held in the 33 local government areas, 3 senatorial districts, 14 federal constituencies, and 351 wards across the pacesetter state.
