The crisis rocking the Imamship of Ogbomoso is far from ending soon, as the Ayilara Descendants Family Home and Diaspora, Ogbomoso, has disowned the current Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Dr. Teliat Yunus Olushina, as their son.
During a press conference held in Ibadan, Prince Hassan Ayilara who spoke on behalf of the Ayilara family, said Dr. Teliat Yunus can not be traced to any of the families either at Isale-Afon, Oke Agbede or where their progenitor, Sheikh Uthman Ayilara hails from at Onikoyi Adigun House of Ikoyi-Ile that makes up the Ayilara family both home and in diaspora.
According to him, the crisis began following the demise of the last grand Imam of Ogbomoso, Sheikh Sanusi Ashifa, which made it possible for the Ayilara family to present a new Chief Imam out of the 6 recognised families that are entitled to the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland position.
“All efforts made by Ayilara Descendants Family Home and Diaspora, Ogbomoso, to allow Teliat Yunus Olushina to hear his version of the story and how he became a member of the Ayilara family proved abortive as he shunned all the meetings called by the family.”
“It’s on record that the father of Teliat Yunus Olushina is from Imeko in Ogun State and none of his 11 siblings have never once identified with the Ayilara family or participated in any affairs of the family. This is what we agitated for before Teliat and some few people in the family convinced the former soun to wrongfully install him as the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso land.”
“Till date, Teliat Yunus Olushina has not told us the siblings of his father or how he is related to any of the four different lineages he claimed,” Ayilara said
The family also frowned at the Imam for disrespecting the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, who they said wants peace to reign as far as the issue of the Ayilara family and the Imamship of Ogbomoso is concerned.
“It is on record that the appointment of the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso Land is the sole responsibility of the Soun of Ogbomoso Land because the central mosque of Ogbomoso belongs to their forefathers. So, any media trial by Teliat will not be accepted by the family.
“There’s no person known as Alfa Teliat Yunus Olushina in the Imam Ayilara family of Ogbomoso. He is an imposter and has been using the social media to blackmail the soun of Ogbomosoland simply because he is a Christian. This is not a religious issue at all, it is purely a family affair, to which we have now approached the court to give justice to his claim of an imposter. He has brought disrepute to the Imam of the Imam Ayilara family, to the prestigious throne of Ogbomoso land, and to the image of the entire Muslim community of Ogbomoso land,” the family said.
The Aare Muslim of Ogbomoso land, Alhaji Ganiyu Owodunni, the Mogaji of the Ayilara family, the Secretary of the family, and other prominent members of the family attended the press conference to disown Teliat Yunus Olushina as Chief Imam of Ogbomoso and member of the Sheik Uthman Ayilara family.
