As the Oyo State House of Assembly celebrates one year anniversary, the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin says it has been 12 months of steady legislative progress for the 10th Assembly in the State
The Speaker stated this on Thursday at a special plenary sitting to mark the first year anniversary of Oyo State House of Assembly, and presentation of State of the State address by Governor Seyi Makinde.
He said from available records, the achievements of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly in its first year had surpassed that of the first legislative year of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly
” Today marks another indelible and significant day in the history of the State Legislature as we rejoice and celebrate one year in Office as elected legislators and representatives of the thirty-two (32) Constituencies in the State.
” Distinguished colleagues and our esteemed guests, everything seems like yesterday when both the new and re-elected members of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly gathered in this hallowed chamber with a pledge to strive for excellence, good governance and socio-economic upliftment of our State through enactment of people oriented Laws and passage of resolutions and Motions among other constitutionally assigned responsibilities.
” It has no doubt been 12 months of steady progress. First, the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly enacted Laws that aided the implementation of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAFER Programme) Agenda of the present Administration, and the program is already on course.”
Hon. Ogundoyin said that within one year, the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly was able to pass 16 bills while 4 others are presently at various stages of legislative processes.
” It gladdens my heart that Nine (9) out of the 16 bills had been assented to by His Excellency. I am pleased to also announce that sixty-six (68) motions had been sponsored and moved by us, and the Committees had presented thirty-five (35) reports on oversight functions and matters referred to the Committees at Plenary Sittings of the House.
” So far, the House had passed One hundred and seventy (170) resolutions to the Executive Arm of Government and others for appropriate actions.”
The Speaker commended his fellow colleagues for their high level commitment and patriotism to their legislative duties, which he noted was responsible for the success recorded in the last 12 months.
” Let me state unequivocally that these outstanding records and achievements would not have been possible, if not for the unwavering supports, collaboration and commitment of my dear colleagues. This commitment no doubt is in tandem with my acceptance speech during our inauguration where I promised that the 10th Assembly would work vehemently to surpass the achievements of the 9th Assembly.”
Hon. Ogundoyin used the medium to acknowledge what he described as unflinching support and cooperation of the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde to the programmes and activities of the State Assembly.
” Let me at this juncture state that whatever feat we have accomplished, whatever achievement we have recorded within one year is not without the unflinching support and cooperation of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, who is taking good governance to a higher level of quality, impacts and effectiveness.
The Governor has always been very supportive of the State Legislature especially through provisions of required resources, enabling environment and non-interference in our Legislative activities.”
The Speaker further commended all the staff of the Assembly for their diligence and dedication to their assigned responsibilities.
