The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for presenting a comprehensive and forward-thinking budget proposal for the year 2025.

The Governor’s ₦678 billion budget of Economic Stabilization was presented on Wednesday, November 13, at the floor of the House.

In his address shortly before the governor’s presentation which saw lawmakers taking turn to commend Makinde, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin emphasized the importance of the 2025 budget proposal noting that the Nigerian Constitution mandates state governors to submit their budget proposals for legislative approval.

He described the budget as a key step in outlining the administration’s financial strategies and priorities, setting the stage for socio-economic development and the betterment of the people of Oyo State.

“Today marks another significant occasion as our Governor, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, presents the 2025 budget proposal to this distinguished Assembly.

“This proposal is a crucial part of our ongoing efforts to drive economic growth, enhance infrastructure, and improve the quality of life for all residents of Oyo State.” Ogundoyin said.

Highlighting the successes of Governor Makinde’s administration under “Omituntun 2.0”, Ogundoyin pointed to the governor’s achievements, including the recent approval of ₦80,000 as the minimum wage for state workers and consistent wage awards for civil servants as well as pensioners over the past 12 months.

He lauded the governor’s efforts to boost socio-economic growth despite the state’s modest federal allocations.

Ogundoyin also commended the governor’s leadership in implementing the Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2023-2027, which he described as a testament to the administration’s commitment to rebuilding Oyo State.

The Speaker prayed for divine guidance and wisdom for Governor Makinde as he continues lead the state towards greater prosperity.

The Speaker noted that the 2024 budget had achieved an impressive 64% success rate, and thanked the collaborative efforts between the executive, legislature, and other stakeholders.

He expressed optimism that the 2025 budget would surpass this performance and further propel the state’s development.

The Speaker said that Makinde’s 2025 budget proposal, pegged at ₦678.09 billion, focuses on key sectors such as infrastructure and education, which will receive the highest allocations of 22.46% and 21.4%, respectively.

Ogundoyin explained that the budget has the capacity to stimulate economic growth, enhance productivity, and improve education standards across the state.

Other sectors, including health (8.76%) and agriculture (2.77%), were also pegged to receive significant allocations.

The Speaker assured that the Oyo State House of Assembly would work closely with Governor Makinde to ensure the successful implementation of the budget.

“We are committed to conducting thorough oversight to guarantee transparency, accountability, and responsible allocation of resources,” Ogundoyin affirmed.

He also promised a swift passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to ensure the timely execution of projects and policies.

Ogundoyin highlighted the achievements of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly, which has set a benchmark for excellence with a record of 23 bills passed, 50 committee reports presented, and over 250 resolutions forwarded to the executive.

He reiterated the legislature’s commitment to quality representation and impactful legislation in the year ahead.

Ogundoyin expressed his confidence that the 2025 budget proposal would lay a strong foundation for Oyo State’s continued progress, prosperity, and socio-economic development.
