The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has received 10 members of the council who were recently sponsored to Lagos for free eye surgery.

Commending medical experts on the successful surgeries which have restored eyesight to the affected persons, the Council chairman expressed gratitude to the volunteer medical experts.

While receiving the 10 members in his office at the LG Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre Ibadan during the week, Olatunji maintained that the initiative aimed at providing free medical support to the less privileged members of the council.

He stated that the successful surgical operations on the 10 members were

made possible through a partnership with a charitable organization focused on healthcare.

The beneficiaries of the free eye surgeries include Odumade Johnson, Onaolapo Famuyide, Adetunji Anifat, Bakare Nafisat, Lamidi Onifade, Mrs O.A Ajayi, Adegoke Sunday, Olamide Taiwo, Tajudeen lawal, Samuel Olubanjo, and Agboola Ilesanmi.

Recall that the executive chairman of Oluyole LG in collaboration with Samaritans Heart For Humanity Foundation, Compassionate For The Aged Foundation, and Salvation Initiative For The Vulnerable held a one day free medical outreach to provide free eye test, medication, and surgery on cataracts for members of the council.

Speaking, Olatunji said the eye surgeries, which were performed at a private specialist hospital in Lagos, were part of an ongoing effort by the Oluyole LG administration to address health challenges at the grassroots.

Beneficiaries, many of whom had been suffering from various eye conditions including cataracts and glaucoma expressed their gratitude to the LG chairman for what they described as a life-changing intervention.

Olatunji said: “We are very happy to see the success of this initiative. It is a testament to the commitment of our administration to improving the welfare of our people.

“These individuals, who had been battling with their eyesight for years, now have a chance to live healthier and more productive lives.

“This is part of our commitments to our people at the grassroots, to directly impact their lives positively and to ensure that whatever we do compliments efforts of the state government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.

“We will continue to work to improve our people’s well-being and the quality of their lives. We appeal to other NGOs, Foundations, Charity organizations to partner with us to touch more lives particularly at the grassroots where more vulnerable people live.” Olatunji said.

The 10 beneficiaries, who ranged in age from 45 to 70, were selected after thorough medical screening by a team of volunteer health experts.

One of the beneficiaries, who shared his experience said: “Before the surgery, I couldn’t see clearly and struggled with daily tasks. Now, I can see again, and I feel so blessed. I thank the Oluyole LG administration and the volunteer medical experts for making this possible.”

The local government has however, expressed plans to continue collaborating with health-focused organizations to expand medical care access to more residents, particularly in areas of eye care, maternal health, and other critical services.

Olatunji further hinted at future initiatives aimed at creating awareness about preventive eye care and offering free medical screening to a larger population across the 10 political wards in Oluyole LG.

“Our commitment to healthcare is not just about providing treatment but also about ensuring that our people are educated and empowered to take charge of their health,” Olatunji added.

Present at the brief ceremony were the Oluyole HLGA; Alhaja Kudirat Noibi, top local government officials, and family members of beneficiaries of the free eye surgery.
