The speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has emphasized that effective legislation and oversight by lawmakers at all levels are critical to improving governance.
Speaking during a two-day workshop on post-legislative scrutiny (PLS), Ogundoyin stressed the importance of holding the Executive arm accountable for its actions and inactions, ensuring transparency and good governance.
The workshop, organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) with support from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, aimed at enhancing the capacity of lawmakers to monitor and assess the impact of laws after they are enacted.
The event brought together key stakeholders and featured interactive sessions, group discussions, and keynote presentations designed to equip lawmakers with tools for robust post-enactment scrutiny and to strengthen legislative performance in the state.
Ogundoyin stressed the need for check and balance in governance describing the legislative arm as critical stakeholders in democratic setting.
