Dr. Fagbemi Seeks Collaboration With NAFDAC to Prevent Substandard, Falsified, unwholesome Drugs in the State Hospitals

…As He Joins NAFDAC in the Destruction of Fake, Substandard Counterfeit, Unwholesome Products

 

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has invited the Hospital Management Board to witness the destruction of seized and confiscated substandard, falsified, and unwholesome drugs and other regulated products.

 

The destruction exercise, which took place at the Akinyele Dump Site in Ibadan, Oyo State, aims to ensure the safe and environmentally sound destruction of these harmful products.

 

According to NAFDAC, the presence of the Hospital Management Board at the event will greatly contribute to its success. This collaboration is crucial in promoting public health and safety.

 

NAFDAC has been working tirelessly to rid the country of substandard and falsified products. Recently, the agency destroyed products worth nearly N1 billion in Kano.¹

 

The destruction exercise is part of NAFDAC’s efforts to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with regulatory standards across healthcare facilities.

 

The agency has called on stakeholders to support its efforts in promoting public health and safety.

 

By destroying these harmful products, NAFDAC is sending a strong message to those involved in the production and distribution of substandard products.

 

During the exercise, The Southwest Director of the Agency, which comprises of Oyo, Ogun, Sounds, Ondo, Ekiti, and Kwara state, Mrs Roseline Ajayi said the agency worked very hard so as not to allow fake and counterfeit products entering into the markes in the South western region of the country.

 

She praised the good work of His Excellency Engr. Oluseyi Makinde in Sustainable healthcare delivery to the people of the state.

 

In his remarks, The Chairman Oyo State Hospital Management Board (OYSHMB) who was also former staff of the agency, Dr. Akin Fagbemi commended the zonal director of NAFDAC, Mrs Roseline Ajayi for the public display of destroying the fake and counterfeit products.

 

He warned people to resist from bringing in counterfeit and unwholesome products into the country.

 

Dr. Fagbemi stressed further that for the state hospital management board health care is very critical and sustainable healthcare delivery are very important and it will send a strong signal to the people outside the state in harbouring ground for an unwholesome or counterfeit drugs to operate.

 

He therefore promised that the government of the state will continue to collaborate with the agency and ensure that substandard, fake and counterfeit products were destroyed before getting to the market.

 

Some of the expired drugs destroyed were also brought from various facilities within the state hospitals to prevent the administering of fake drugs to patients.
