The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has commended the State Governor , Engr Seyi Makinde for the various initiatives of his administration aimed at promoting technical education.

This is just as the Speaker emphasized the importance of legislative support in promoting international education and providing scholarships to deserving students.

Speaking at the 2025 International Study Abroad Fair held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin noted that the State Government has continued to promote technical education through infrastructural development, training and re-training of personnel as well as development of curriculum to meet international standards

“The Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University is a flagship project in Makinde’s efforts to promote technical education. The university offers a range of courses and programs focused on technical and vocational skills, aiming to bridge the skill gap in Nigeria. Makinde has also ensured that the university is well-equipped to provide quality education, with a focus on practical learning and entrepreneurial practices.”

According to him, international education is a vital tool for transformative change and a catalyst for empowering the next generation of leaders.

As State Legislatures, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin pledged to explore ways of aiding and supporting international education initiatives, recognizing the vital role they play in shaping education policy, setting spending priorities, and allocating resources to support international education.

He said Government at all levels must come up with policies to discourage JAPA syndrome, adding that those studying abroad must always have the mindset of returning to Nigeria (JAPADAWA) to add value to our country.

“As a nation, we must acknowledge the paramount importance of investing in human capital. Education is the foundation for economic growth, social mobility, and political stability.

“Let us remember that the future of our nation is in our hands. Let us commit to empowering the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers. Let us recognize the transformative power of education and work together to create a more just, equitable, and prosperous society for all.” Ogundoyin said.

He commended the Oyo State Government for allocating ₦145.25 billion, representing 21.44% of the total budget, to the education sector in 2025. This significant investment, he said, underscores the government’s dedication to empowering future generations and transforming Oyo State into a beacon of prosperity and excellence.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin also highlighted the need to address major barriers preventing students from accessing international education, including financial constraints, language barriers, and complex visa requirements.

He advocated for scholarships, financial aid, and international partnerships between universities to make international education more accessible, affordable, and inclusive.

“To achieve this goal, we must address the major barriers preventing students from accessing international education. Financial constraints, language barriers, complex visa requirements, cultural differences, academic differences, limited access to information, safety and security concerns among others can deter students from exploring international education opportunities, highlighting the need for support and resources to help overcome these challenges. We must explore ways to make international education more accessible, affordable, and inclusive. This brought us to the critical role scholarships and financial aid play in expanding access to international education.”

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly was presented with an outstanding award for his various efforts aimed at advancing education and empowering the youth in the State.
