The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would screen the recall petition submitted against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central Senatorial District.

Some individuals who claimed to be members of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s constituency had on Monday submitted a petition for the recall of the lawmaker suspended by the Senate for alleged misconduct.

The petition submitted to INEC on behalf of the constituents by Charity Ijese was received by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission’s secretary in Abuja.

Addressing the petitioners, Oriaran-Anthony said that INEC would adhere to screening of the petition in line with the provisions of the law.

According to the constituents over 250,000 registered voters signed the petition to recall the Kogi Central lawmaker.

Members of the constituency also said they have lost confidence in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s ability to represent them at the Nigerian Senate.
