Hon Gbenga Oyekola has been so busy doing his job as a Lawmaker and good representative of Atiba State Constituency that he rarely has time for frivolities or to be engaging in slippery political terrain with few disgruntled elements who rejoice in playing dirty politics. 

 

Xtraying the world of Nigerian politics, there are few individuals who possess the ability to captivate the masses with their charismatic leadership and unwavering dedication to the welfare of their constituents. One of such individuals is Hon. Gbenga Oyekola. Yes, he is a Politician, but one with distinctive attributes.

 

As a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Chief Whip, Hon Gbenga Oyekola has distinguished himself as a people-oriented lawmaker with a profound impact on his constituency.

 

With sincerity devoid of political hatred, his people-oriented philosophy and unwavering commitment to public service remains topnotch, he is a phenomenal lawmaker making a significant impact on his constituents and beyond. As a prominent figure in Oyo politics, he has an indelible mark on the Zone as a former Atiba Local Government Chairman and the incumbent Lawmaker representing the Constituency.

Born and raised in Oyo Town, Gbenga Oyekola hails from humble beginnings, which have undoubtedly shaped his empathetic approach towards governance. It is said that the experiences of his youth have instilled in him a deep sense of responsibility towards uplifting the lives of ordinary citizens. His relationship with his people can be seen in his popular name “Ènìyàn Laṣọ Mi”

Excellency, Engr. ’Seyi Makinde to construct Oroki/Erelu/Mogaji roads in Atiba Local Government area.

4. Elongation of Retirement age for Primary School Teachers and Rehabilitation of

Oyo State Primary Schools.

5. Need to urgently direct Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Oyo State to embark on massive rehabilitation and regular

maintenance of local rural roads for socio-economic development of their areas of jurisdiction.

6. Need for adoption and implementation of the new 65 years retirement age and 40 years length of service for teachers in Oyo state.

9. Need for the Executive Arm of Government to direct Public Schools in the state to participate in National Examinations Council (NECO)

11.Need to address rising incidences of violence and hooliganism in Secondary

To correct the erroneous impression of few people who claimed not to have seen what Hon Gbenga Oyekola has done for the past two years, here are some of his notable achievements but not limited to:

 

PROVISION OF POTABLE WATER

 

Water is life and it remains one of the greatest needs of any community, hence, Hon Oyekola tackled the challenge of water scarcity head-on. He provided and rehabilitated numerous sources of water for the use of Constituents. For record purpose and to clear the doubt of some people, some of the benefitted areas are Asanmimi, Arikende, Alagbon, Aba Oku, Elegbo, Oja Koso, Olugbile, Kasia Apata, Asipa Oke Ore, Koso Amo, Idi Ose Junction, and Alako.

 

Other additional wells are at Ojegbolu, Koso Mogba, Akodudu, Sharp Corner from Ajayi Crowther, Gate before Mustapha Clinic, and Alapo Junction before Kolej.

 

The impact of the water is felt daily in homes, schools, and marketplaces, while boreholes are also being drilled at D-Light Community in Sabo, Soro Hill in Oke Olola, Oke Medina, Alagoja Palace, and Ajonbadi Compound in Isale Oyo, while faulty other ones were repaired in strategic locations such as the Senator Adeseun Borehole beside the mosque in Ward 7 and the Hon. Tela Borehole near Agunpopo Junction, this is in line with his belief that government is a continuum.

 

EMPOWERMENT OF CONSTITUENTS.

 

Hon. Gbenga Oyekola representing Atiba State Constituency understands that empowering people through jobs is one of the surest ways to fight poverty, hence, within the period under review, he facilitated the employment of over fifty individuals from Oyo into SUBEB and TESCOM workforce. as well as securing positions for people of Atiba State Constituency in the Primary Health Care Board and in Special Education for both teaching and non-teaching staff. These opportunities have brought hope and stability to families across the constituency.

 

The beneficiaries are currently doing greatly in their respective places of work across the State.

In addition, his vision for development extends to agriculture, where he has provided farmers with vital inputs to boost their yields, thereby strengthening food security and boosting their income.

 

INTERVENTION ON POWER SUPPLY

 

Hon Oyekola believes that electricity is very important for even economic growth and artisans like Welder, Barbers, Hairdressers and others who rely mainly on electricity to perform their work in the Constituency should be supported. In this regard, he donated electricity poles to various Communities such as Temidire, Erelu, and Oloro to improve power supply and light up neighbourhoods.

 

EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE SERVICES

 

These two critical sectors have also received much attention from Hon Gbenga Oyekola. He facilitated the establishment of a Secondary School in Elegbo, thereby giving children a closer and better learning environment. Schools have been supplied with educational materials to aid teaching and learning. Regular support to General Hospital for quality healthcare delivery to the Constituents and all residents.

 

Also in the Education Sector, through his scholarship programmes, bright and deserving students have gained admission into various institutions of higher learning such as the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan and the School of Nursing, which has remained a life-changing opportunity for young people with big dreams to actualise their potential.

 

THE JUDICIARY

 

As it is known that the three Arms of Government, The Executive, The Legislature and The Judiciary must work together in the best interest of the Society. Hon Oyekola renovated the Magistrate Court to make it a more decent and functional environment for justice to thrive.

 

SPORTS AND YOUTHS DEVELOPMENT

 

Honourable Oyekola has not forgotten the youths, especially in the area of sports. In his bid to catch-them-young, he provided sportswears for pupils of Iyalamu Primary School. He encouraged active participation in sporting activities, building for not just healthy gains but for also strong community spirit and bond.

 

INDIVIDUALS SUPPORT

 

Countless number of people have received financial support from Hon Gbenga Oyekola for personal projects, treatments, personal development, ceremonies, among others. He believes in making people happy and has never reneged on it.

 

These achievements and many numerous ones can only come from a Representative who cares for his people despite the fact that his primary function as a legislator is to make laws, oversight functions and checks and balances.

 

Hon Oyekola is a leader who listens, who cares, and who delivers. Hon. Gbenga Oyekola’s work is a testament that with the right leadership, communities can rise, lives can be transformed and all can enjoy inclusive government.

In summary, through numerous grassroots initiatives and development projects, he has consistently worked to improve the lives of his constituents. From providing access to quality education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, to creating employment opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship, he has implemented policies and projects that directly impact the lives of those he serves.

 

As a lover of youths, Oyekola recognizes the potential of a vibrant youth population in Oyo. He has been at the forefront of advocating for youth empowerment and development, understanding that investing in the younger generation is essential for the progress and stability of the Community. Through various mentorship programs, skills acquisition initiatives, and the facilitation of employment for the youths, he has provided the tools and opportunities necessary for them to thrive and contribute to the nation’s growth. Through his efforts, many young people in his constituency have been able to start their own businesses and contribute to the local economy.

 

In a society where gender equality remains a pressing issue, Oyekola has been a staunch advocate for women’s rights and empowerment. He recognizes the critical role that women play in nation-building and has consistently championed policies and initiatives that promote gender equality. He has supported the education and economic empowerment of women, actively encouraging their participation in decision-making processes and leadership positions. His efforts have not only empowered women but also contributed to a more inclusive and equitable society.

 

As he continues with his monumental strides and achievements, it is evident that his people-oriented philosophy has continued to guide his actions and drive his commitment to serving the people.
