Tributes, Encomium as Alhaji Onike Rahman is Laid to Rest; 3-Day Fidau to Hold on Sunday, September 14

The remains of Alhaji Rahman Onike, the Deputy Registrar, Students Affairs at Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora has been laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery in Oyo Town.  

 

Sympathizers thronged out to bid farewell to an illustrious son of Oyo, Students advocate and freedom fighter as he was laid to rest.

 

A 3-day Fridaos prayer will hold in his honour on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Atiba Town Hall, Akesan by 9.00am.

 

Meanwhile, the Management, both Past and Present, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Associates within and Abroad, Colleagues, Friends, Staff and Students of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora have continued to pay glowing tributes to the late prolific writer and seasoned Administrator, Alhaji Rahman Olalekan Onike who breadth his last on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

 

The Rector, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi, who spoke on behalf of the Management stated, “We are greatly devastated and shocked by the sudden demise of a highly resourceful Staff and former Congregation Representative on the Governing Council, may Almighty Allah grant the Institution, family and friends the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

 

OYSCATECH Former Rector and former acting Provost of College of Agriculture and Renewable Resources, Iseyin Campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Prof. Gbemiga Adewale in his condolence Message said, “I received with deep sadness, the news of the passage of Alhaji Rahman Onike.”

 

Prof. Adewale described him as a loyal and committed Staff who served various administrations diligently. He noted that his legacy of dedication and service will continue to linger on in the minds of many, while praying God to comfort OYSCATECH Community, friends and family.

 

Prof. Lateef Sanni, the immediate past Governing Council Chairman and the Executive Director, Nigeria Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) has expressed shock at the news of the former Council Member, Alhaji Rahman Onike. Prof. Sanni extolled his dedication and significant contributions to the immediate past Governing Council and OYSCATECH Community at large. He prayed the Almighty Allah to repose his soul.

 

Mr. Niyi Fehintola, a former Registrar described his death as shocking, while stating that the institution has lost an astute Administrator.

 

Mr. Paul Oyediran, a former acting Registrar described Alhaji Onike’s Death as saddened and unbelievable. He prayed that the Almighty God comfort all on every side.

 

Dr. Olatunji Olaojo, the former Polytechnic Librarian for OYSCATECH and current Librarian of Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, Dr. Sarafa Agbogun, the immediate Past Bursar, Dr. Taiwo Akinyemi, the immediate past Deputy Rector, former Governing Council Members and Dr. Oluyemi Ayanboye, former Chairman Committee of Deans have also sent in their condolence messages as they prayed the Almighty to comfort and grant the institution the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

 

In addition, Staff members who sent in their condolence messages included; the Deputy Rector, Dr. Wasiu Raheem, Director of SIWES, Dr. Muyiwa Sadiq, Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Olubunmi Adeosun, Engr. Adesope, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Engr. Dr. Lasisi whom he served with as Congregation Representative, Dean, Faculty of Management and Communications, Pastor Olusola Adeleke, Mrs. Modupe Ayanlola, Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs, Dr. Adedayo Theodore, Mr.Waheed Lanase, Mrs. Gift Ilori, Mrs Sekinat Adejuwon, a Deputy Bursar, Mrs. Naomi Olawepo, Mr. Michael Adelakun, Mrs Olatunji, Mr. & Mrs. Robberts Olaogun, Mrs. Alaba, Mrs. Dolapo Olaoye, Mrs Alli, Mr. Mumini Tiamiyu, the Chairman, Academic Staff of Polytechnics (ASUP), OYSCATECH Chapter, Mrs. Adeniji and Pastor Adegoke, Sis Layo Adeoye, Mrs Oloyede, Mrs.Adewole Adedokun, Mr. Emiola, Mrs. Oyeniyi, Dr. Balogun, and Mrs Yetunde Agbomabiwon,.

James Agboola, Deputy Chief Engr., Mrs. Oluwatoyin Adeagbo, the Director of ICT, Mrs. Dolapo Ogunsola, Prince Akintayo Akinyemi, Pastor Olakunle Kayode, HOD Statistics, Mr. Akanni, Dr. Ronke Alabi, Mrs. Aderogba, Dr. Ayodele Oladejo, Director of Ventures, Mrs. Binuyo, Mrs Tola Okediji, Mrs Kikelomo Adedeji, Mrs. Trifena Adeagbo, Mr. Babarinde, Director of physical planning, Pastor Timothy, Mrs. Kafayat Lateef, Mrs. Omolola Adeniyi, Mr. Godwin, Mrs. Ajetunmobi, Mr. Olumide Abiodun, Dr. (Mrs.) Rafiu, Mrs. Mary Oyatope, Mr. Lateef, Mr. Adubi, Mrs. Gbenro Rafiat, and a host of others who are too numerous to mention.

 

They expressed sadness and shock at the sudden exit of Mr. Rahman Onike, while describing him as a unique leader, mentor, advocate and pillar of support who invested in the growth of others.

 

Until his death, Mr. Onike was immediate past congregation representative on the Governing Council of the Institution, a Deputy Registrar, Prolific writer, Public Speaker, respected Comrade, Activist and diligent Staff.

 

He joined the services of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora as an Administrative Officer II in 2008 and rose to the position of a Deputy Registrar.

 

He was an Alumnus of Saint Andrew’s College, Oyo, University of Ibadan, and Olivet High School among others.
