A recent opinion poll has shown that former Osun State Deputy Governor, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi [BOA], stands out as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s strongest candidate to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.

The survey, conducted by Brilliance and Purposeful Foundation between September 21 and October 13, 2025, revealed that Alabi not only leads within the APC but is also the only aspirant projected to defeat Adeleke in a direct face-off.

According to the poll released by Michael Ukandu, Alabi garnered 24 per cent of support among APC stakeholders, ahead of Ashiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (21 per cent) and Senator Iyiola Omisore (19 per cent). Others, including Babajide Omoworare and Dotun Babayemi, scored below 15 per cent.

In a head-to-head matchup, Alabi was favoured by 56 per cent of respondents, compared to Adeleke’s 44 per cent, suggesting a strong cross-party appeal. Other APC aspirants fell behind, with Oyebamiji polling 42 per cent and Omisore 33 per cent in similar tests.

Overall, the poll placed the PDP at 42 per cent, APC at 39 per cent, and ADC and other parties at 19 per cent, signalling a close race that could swing either way.

Political observers say the figures reflect growing public sentiment that the 2026 election may be “one of the most competitive in Osun’s history.”

They added that with Adeleke’s popularity still strong among grassroots voters, the APC’s chances will largely depend on its ability to avoid internal divisions and rally support around a single candidate.
