In a major political realignment that has sent strong signals across Oyo State’s political landscape, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Abdul-Raman Raphael Afoja, has reportedly dumped Governor Seyi Makinde’s camp to openly embrace the rising political movement of the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
According to credible insiders, Prof. Afoja’s decision followed months of dissatisfaction with the current administration’s style of governance and internal treatment of key technocrats. His defection is being described as a “bold and patriotic step” aimed at repositioning Oyo State for a more progressive future.
Prof. Afonja, known for his professionalism, integrity, and deep commitment to infrastructural development, was said to have been impressed by Chief Adelabu’s vision, leadership style, and renewed efforts to unify the political family across the state.
Speaking during a private meeting with stakeholders, Afonja reportedly stated that Oyo State needs “focused, competent, and visionary leadership that places people above politics,” noting that Adelabu represents “the kind of credible alternative Oyo State deserves in 2027.”
Political analysts suggest that his defection will shake up the present government, considering Afonja’s strong grassroots connections and influence among professional bodies, contractors, and youth groups across the state.
As the 2027 race continues to take shape, Afoja’s move is seen as another major boost for Adelabu’s camp, further strengthening the momentum that has been building around the Minister of Power in recent months.
