De Pride FC lifted the trophy in the inaugural Olukusa U‑16 Football Tournament, edging out VIA FC 1‑0 in a tightly contested final at the Olubadan Stadium.
The match, which drew enthusiastic crowds from across Ibadanland, marked the culmination of a week‑long celebration of youth football aimed at unearthing and nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
The tournament, generously sponsored by Mogaji Adetunji Sheriffdeen Ibrahim, was conceived as a scouting platform for promising young players.
“We brought together 17 teams from every corner of Ibadanland to give our boys a chance to showcase their skills,” From the games we have identified about 25 exceptional youngsters with outstanding technique, speed and vision. ”
” They will form the first cohort of the Olukusa Football Academy, a dedicated centre that will provide professional coaching, academic support and pathways to higher‑level clubs.”Mogaji said
Coaches and invited guests praised the initiative for its potential to revitalise grassroots football in the region.
“This tournament is exactly what our community needs – a structured, competitive environment that encourages discipline and teamwork,” said one of the attending coaches. “Mogaji Olukusa has set a shining example for other leaders to follow.”They said
In addition to the championship title, De Pride FC walked away with a cheque for five hundred thousand naira, while runners‑up VIA FC received three Hundred thousand naira. Third‑place Eagle Star FC was awarded two hundred thousand naira for their commendable performance.

The event concluded with a brief award ceremony, during which the newly selected academy players were introduced to the crowd, each receiving a kit and a promise of ongoing development support.
The success of the first edition hasary already sparked interest for an expanded second edition in 2027 further solidifying Olukusa’s commitment to fostering the next generation of Nigerian football stars.
