Olokuta village in Ward 8 of Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo was thrown into celebration mode as the council commissioned a solar-powered borehole and a newly constructed block of four classrooms.

The project was part of the Council’s focus on grassroots community based development.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to addressing everyday challenges faced by residents, particularly in rural communities.

“These are needs-driven projects, access to clean water and a safe learning environment should not be privileges. They are basic rights, and as a local government working in line with the vision of our mentor and leader, Governor Seyi Makinde, it is our responsibility to ensure our people enjoy them,” Olatunji said.

The chairman explained that the solar-powered borehole was designed as a sustainable solution to water scarcity in Olokuta, reducing dependence on unsafe sources and long treks for water, especially by women and children.

“This borehole will serve the entire community without the burden of fuel or high maintenance costs. It is about sustainability and long-term impact,” he added.

On the newly completed four-classroom block, the council boss noted that the facility would help decongest overcrowded classrooms and improve teaching and learning outcomes.

“Education remains the foundation of development. When children learn in a decent environment, the results show in their confidence and performance,” he said.

A community leader in Olokuta village, who spoke on behalf of residents, expressed gratitude to the local government for what he described as long-awaited interventions.

“For years, our people struggled to get clean water, and our children learned in overcrowded classrooms.

“Today, we can say our voices have been heard. This will change daily life in this village,” he stated.

Residents, including parents and teachers, also commended the council, noting that the projects would ease hardship and improve school attendance.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by councillors, local government officials, traditional leaders, party stakeholders, and members of the host community.

The Oluyole LG chairman assured residents that similar projects would be extended to other wards, stressing that development would continue to be guided by equity, accountability, and the real needs of the people.
