Renowned Islamic Scholar, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke, has pinpointed leadership and followership problems as major obstacles to Nigeria’s development.
He made this statement at the 3rd edition of the Annual Jagaban TV Ramadan Lecture, held at Bashorun Oluwo Nla, Ibadan.
Speaking on “Integrity and Leadership: Lessons from the Prophets,” Prof. Olagoke emphasized that the lack of integrity in leadership and followership is at the heart of Nigeria’s challenges. “A country that lacks integrity in decision-making will struggle to overcome its problems,” he warned.
Citing Quranic verses, the founder of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide stressed that integrity is key to solving Nigeria’s issues, noting that almost all sectors have lost public trust due to a lack of it.
He urged leaders to prioritize humanity and integrity in governance.
In his remarks, the Founder and Executive Director Jagaban Communications Samuel Oluwaseun Adenitan said the lecture is part of the corporate social responsibility of the media outfit to ensure safe society.
” My sincere message to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections is that,as we approach future electioneering periods.I urge Nigerians to remain vigilant, think beyond temporary inducements ,vote for competence over sentiment and choose character over cash.
The lecture’s theme, “Encouraging Ethical Governance and Personal Accountability,” resonated with Prof. Olagoke’s call for leaders to put people first.
