The University of Ibadan Student’s Union has appreciated the swift intervention in addressing the electricity blackout of University College Hospital Ibadan
The union in an appreciation letter jointly signed by the President Comrade Aweda Bolaji and Comrade Ogundijo Dolapo Japheth said the prompt response of the Minister of Power has demonstrated his commitment to Keep his words and make changes in the power sector.
According to the Union, the recent blackout has a major setback to UCH Ibadan but the restoration of electricity in the Teaching hospital will further strengthen the effectiveness of medical personnel and assist the security operatives in ensuring the safety of the patients.
“As you promised electricity was restored to UCH within 48 hours, and on Tuesday,18th February 2025,power was also reinstated in our Halls of Residence.Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Postgraduate Hall.Your Prompt Response has demonstrated your commitment to keeping your words, and for this , we are truly grateful”
” Honourable Minister, as members of your consistency, we wish to bring to your attention another pressing issue affecting our campus the inadequate lighting in key areas, which has contributed to security concerns”
” In light of this ,we humbly request your support in the donation of 150 solar- powered streetlights to illuminate Barth Road(the longest road on campus) Tech Road, and other frequently traveled pathways used by students for classes and night reading.This initiative will significantly enhance security and ensure a safer environment for all.”
While commending the Minister of Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu for his giant strides in the power sector the Union also solicited the Minister’s assistance in procuring a 10 KVA solar system for the students’ Union Building.
According to the Union,the 10kva power solar will enable the union to transition off- grid , reducing their dependence on the national power supply and mitigating the effects of erratic electricity.
