…Says His Leadership Will Strengthen Journalism, Welfare and Press Freedom
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has congratulated Comrade Akeem Abass on his emergence as the newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.
In a statement issued by his aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, Adelabu described Abas’ victory as “well-deserved and a clear endorsement of his leadership capacity, integrity, and long-standing commitment to the journalism profession.”
Awogboro noted on behalf of the Minister that Abass’ election reflects the overwhelming confidence reposed in him by media professionals across Oyo State, adding that his track record demonstrates dedication, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of journalists.
According to Adelabu, “Comrade Abass has consistently demonstrated admirable leadership qualities. I am confident that he will steer the Oyo NUJ with fairness, equity, and an inclusive spirit that strengthens unity and professionalism within the Union.”
The statement further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at improving journalists’ welfare and enhancing press operations in Oyo State. Adelabu emphasized that a free, vibrant, and protected press remains essential for accountability and good governance.
He added that Abass’ agenda for improved welfare, professional development, and press freedom aligns with ongoing national efforts to create a more enabling environment for media practice.
Adelabu, through his aide, urged journalists across the state to rally behind the new NUJ Chairman, expressing optimism that his leadership would bring renewed cohesion, progress, and strength to the Union.
The Minister also wished Abass a successful tenure, expressing confidence that he will make a significant impact in advancing the interests of journalists and raising the standard of journalism practice in Oyo State.
