The 20th anniversary celebration of veteran sports journalist, Dayo Ojo, popularly known as “Okocha into sports journalism”is expected to commence with a football tournament tagged ” Dayo Ojo Okocha 20 Years Anniversary Veterans Football Competition”.
This is contained in a release issued by the Public Relations Officer , Anniversary Planning Committee , Adebayo Adedigba and made available to journalists .
The competition, according to the football committee led by Afe Adeniyi , the tournament will commence with registration by participating teams from 12th to 31st December 2025, while the draws will come up, 10th January , 2026.
The competition is scheduled to kick off on 17th January 2026 at the historic Durbar Stadium in Oyo.
The release said further “The tournament will run for two months, it is reserved exclusively for veteran football clubs within Oyo town and across Oyo State”
“In addition to the football competition, the anniversary programme will feature presentation of awards and certificates of recognition to individuals who have made notable contributions in one way or the other to the 20 year journey of Dayo Ojo Okocha and development of sports in Oyo town at large.
“There will also be sports quiz competition finals and live sports presentation among renowned sports presenters in the state.
The release described the event as a tribute to Okocha’s enduring impact on sports journalism, community engagement, and promotion of grassroots sports across the nook and cranny of the state.
The celebration is expected to draw veteran players, supporters, and members of the sporting community, all coming together to honour a media professional whose work has shaped the sports landscape for twenty years during the grand finale slated for April 11th, 2026.
