President Bola Tinubu has called on those in leadership positions to shine the light of good, responsive and productive governance to make democracy appealing to the countries still under military dictatorship.
The president made the call in a keynote address at the summit on the state of democracy in Africa at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre Abuja.
He said the ultimate purpose of democracy must be to provide good, honest and responsible governance that will promote the greatest good for the greatness number of people.
Tinubu charged the summit to discuss ways of making the African pear review mechanism (A PRM) contribute to achieving good governance and democratic consolidation on the continent.
Also, speaking at the occasion, former president Olusegun Obasanjo advised African nations to re-examine the democracy inherited from the west.
He said Africa must build a model of democracy that is true to the African heritage and that caters for the welfare of the people.
