Oyo State Government on Thursday, distributed Cerebral Palsy Wheelchair, Modern Teaching/Learning Equipment, Others worth millions of Naira to Public Special Schools in the State.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, while speaking during the presentation of the equipment at the Ministry’s Car Park, said the gesture was aimed at bolstering educational support for students with special needs in the state.
He commended Governor Seyi Makinde led administration in the state for creating an enabling environment and inclusiveness for students with special needs to reach their full potential in their carriers.
Prof. Adelabu explained that the present administration has created more study centers for Children with special needs, including the center at Iseyin to ensure that the special needs of students are met.
He charged all the management of the benefitting schools to make the judicious use of the equipment given to them.
He reiterated that the present administration in the state is committed to partnering with international organizations to provide funds to ensure that the children with special needs realize their dreams.
In his remarks, the Executive Assistance to the Governor on Disability, Hon. Femi Timothy appreciated governor Seyi Makinde for providing equal access to education for all, respecting their abilities.
He harped on the need to break barriers before the students and assist them to unlock their potentials.
He described the learning materials given to beneficiary schools as a catalyst for lifetime achievements.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) Oyo State chapter, Comrade Sanusi Kabir, said that governor Makinde has improved the lives of Children with special needs by providing Educational facilities and equipment for them to ensure that they can compete with their able counterparts.
He promised that all the equipment given to them will be judiciously used.
The equipment donated includes essential educational materials typewriters, braille papers, talking calculators, and white canes, maths set for the blind, adjustable walking sticks, Geo Safari globe map, Guide cane, Cerebral palsy wheelchair, elbow crutches, hand free crutches and a host of others.
