Politics:Who Will be the PDP Standard
In recent times, the political landscape in Ibadan North Federal constituency has been abuzz with activities as all political parties go back to the drawing board to strategize and present credible candidates for forthcoming bye- election
This election is to fill the House of Representatives seat left vacant by the late Hon Musiliu Olaide Akinremi popularly known as Jagaban, an APC Member Who represented the constituency until his untimely death.
Amid these preparations, rumours have been circulating that Oyo State Governor Engr Seyi Makinde has endorsed a PDP Candidate for the upcoming election. It is important to set the record straight the Governor has not anointed any candidate for this bye- election
As a party committed to democratic principles, the PDP is yet to decide on its candidate for this crucial election.
Speculation has been rife about potential candidates within the PDP who might struggle for the seat. Notable among those considered are:
Hon Lanre Sarumi– The PDP Candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the 2023
general election. He believes his significant investment in the previous campaign makes him a strong contender.
Hon Abiodun Awoleye a two term house of representatives and Current Chairman of Oyo state Primary Health Care Board, who lost in the primaries but remains a potential candidate.
Hon Oluwaseun Olufade is the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government who despite being seen as a credible candidate, may choose to focus on his current role due to the ongoing local government autonomy reforms.
Hon Oyekunle Folaijnmi AKA Don is the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde also considered to be a strong contender.
Hon Adebayo Babajide Gabriel is a distinguished member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North constituency 2.
Hon Gabriel is recognized for his effective representation in the 9th and 10th present Oyo Assembly, which earned him the trust and performance that makes him a quality candidate for the federal seat.
Hon Adeniyi Kazeem Bibire is a former Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters .Hon Bibire is highly esteemed for his accessibility, loyalty to the party and impactful service.
During his appointment as Special Adviser to the Governor, his contributions were felt across the federal constituency and has been consistently available to assist when called upon .
His unique characteristic of extending fellowship and upliftment to others has endeared him to many in Ibadan North
Many believe he can carry on the legacy of the late Hon Musiliu Olaide Akinremi due to his compassionate nature and Zeal for development
Hon Olufunke Comforter Olajide is a first time member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North constituency 1 known for her commitment to constituency duty.
Another prospective candidate is Taiwo Salami . Although his name has come up in discussions many views him as not having been sufficiently particularly in party activities.
He is often seen around only when opportunities to occupy a position arise which has led some to see him as more of an opportunist than a dedicated party member.
While all these individuals are qualified and capable of representing Ibadan North Federal constituency,it must be emphasized that as of now, no candidate has been endorsed by Governor Makinde.
It is hoped that PDP will remain committed to a transparent and democratic process in selecting it’s Candidate for the bye- election
The people of Ibadan North Federal constituency should be assured that the party will field the most suitable candidate for the bye- election
Until then, any news of an endorsed candidate by the Governor is purely speculative and should be regarded of such.
