The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has suspended its proposed Nation wide strike aimed at addressing Fuel Scarcity and demanding for resignation of key officials in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited NNPCL and the Ministry of Power.
In a released made available to mediareportsng.com by the leadership of the union also stated that their decision to suspend the mobilization towards a National protest till further notice comes as a result of constructive dialogue and negotiation.
“The government has reached out to us to initiate dialogue and has provided assurance for that measures will be taken to end the fuel scarcity and equally promised improvement in electricity supply before the end of next week.While remain vigilant remain vigilant in our accountability in good governance .We believe that engaging in dialogue presents as opportunity to address our concern through constructive means”
” As student leaders,our agitation are not fueled by personal animosity towards NNPCL,GCEO and the Minister of Power but rather by our responsibility as a pressure group to hold them accountable for their actions.We recognize the importance of keeping government officials accountable and ensuring transparency in the management of the nation’s resources “NANS said.
According to NANS the initial call for protest was driven by frustration and urgency in addressing the fuel scarcity and electricity crisis gripping our nation adding that Nigerian Students will be further updates on the progress and outcomes of the dialogue with the government.
“We shall continue to our engagement with government and advocate for the implementation of our demands to address the root causes of the fuel scarcity and improve the energy sector.We remain steadfast in our pursuit of positive change and will not hesitate to resume our advocacy efforts if progress is not made”NANS said
